VTT Awarded contract from BARD Group

VTT Maritime AS of Bergen, Norway has been awarded a contract to do engineering works related to the conversion of the ex Edda Freya to Ocean Zephyr (IMO 9000625). The vessel is owned by the BARD Group and will after the conversion be used as an offshore wind maintenance vessel.

VTT Maritime AS is a company that offers services to the global offshore energy industry. VTT’s main areas are within the fields of planning and execution of marine operations, marine engineering and vessel inspection services (FMEA, DP trials, IMCA CMID, OCIMF). VTT Maritime AS has been involved in several other offshore wind projects and aim to become a significant service provider to this industry.

The BARD Group is a pioneer in the development and realization of cutting-edge offshore wind energy deployment, who is in the process of constructing „BARD Offshore 1“, located around 100 kilometer off the island coast of Borkum, the first commercial and currently most powerful class of offshore wind farm in Germany. By 2013 „BARD Offshore 1“ will feature 80 turbines providing a nominal capacity of 400 megawatt – equivalent to the power needs of more than 400,000 households.
